A communique states that the action from Lys to the sea is less 1 severe. Ger-; man efforts - to cross the, Yser Canal 'failed, and German attacks north-east and south-east of Ypres were repulsed. We have gradually advanced during the last few days. The line from Armentieres to the "jOise f-is" now within 350 metres of the German wire entanglements. We captured Tracy-le-yal and have progressed" slightly rat' other points north of the Aisne. We;■ have repulsed" Gdrman counter attacks 'at Chavonne and, Soupir, also at Berry Auba6, > and ,« some progress has been made elsewhere.,
