With a cargo of piles for the Lyttelton Harbour Board the steamer Joan Craig arrived at Lyttelton from Clarence River, New South Wales, yesterday morning. After discharging the local quota the vessel will sail for Wanganui, probably on Monday. Being unable to be placed on- the Wellington patent slip immediately, the South Taranaki Shipping Company's steamer Mana was ■ent on to Lyttelton, where she arrived last evening, to be docked. Some repairs have been necessitated through the vessel's recent ttranding at Patea. At present at Bluff, the Government training ship Amokura is to sail on Monday night for the outlying islands in search of castaways. The trip is expected' to occupy about three weeks, and on arrival back at Wellington the vessel will lay up in order that the boys may be granted their Christmas holidays (three weeks). Shortly after the New Year the Amokura is to leave for the Kermadec Islands. Under charter to the A. and A. Line, the Westward Ho, a steamer of 3596 tons, commanded by Captain Carter, is reported to have left New York for Australian ports.
Advilfe has been reeeived of the safe arrival at Teneriffe of the Kaikoura, running on behalf of the F. and S. Line. The vessel sailed finally from Wellington on October 9 for West of England ports. Mr G. Towns, wireless operator of the Monowai, has signed off. Mr O. Naismith, .engineer of the Mana, and Mr McConville, engineer of the Kapuni, have exchanged positions. Mr 0. McVicar has been engaged on the Maitai as seventh engineer. . . This morning the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer lonic arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington. She lias a considerable amount of London cargo to put out here, and after loading for Home will leave on Sunday next for Auckland and Wellington.
