"TORIC" (CURVED);SPECTACLE LENS.' Just in the same way as a bay window gives a wider field of view than an ordinary flat window, so "Toric" lenses afford a far wider angle of sight than the old-style "flat" kind. Being ground in a deep curve, they conform with' the sliaj>e and movements of the eye,, and are constructed upon perfect scientific optical principles. Wearers of ordinary '' flat'' spectacle lenses, obtain perfect sight only through the direct centre of their glasses. Objects seen towards the edge of tlie lens appear blurred and indistinct. With "Toric" lenses, however, this fault is entirely overcome, sight ,being equally perfect through every part of the letis, no matter in what direction the eyes are turned. These curved lenses possess another advantage over the flat kind, which will be appreciated by those who have experience of the old-style glasses. * Sight through flat lenses is marred by reason of reflections from lights and objects in the rear, which interfere with and confuse the vision. Although it may be interesting, sometimes, to virtually see behind one, yet the purpose of glasses in the ordinary is to see clearly with, and clear sight is impossible when reflections get in at the back of the glasses. '«Toric" lenses quite overcome this difficulty, their curved shape shutting out all reflections, and -ensuring absolute clearness and perfection of vision. " Toric'' lenses, also, afford far greater 1 protection .than flatlenses, for they 'fit - more closely 1 over the eyes, ■ without touching the eye-lashes, doing dway with, that space between the glasses and the face. This is an important factor in rendering "Tories " the most becoming, as well as the most efficient, glasses made. - Considerable interest has been aroused in Christcliurch in these new and improved spectacle lenses and Mr Walter J. Watson, Optical; Specialist,, wishes to announce through x this medium that he will be pleased to personally demonstrate their merits, and superiority over the old style of glasses, to anyone calling at his address, Colombo Street, near Kincaid's. Mr Watson specialises in the fitting of fTories" and also "Invisible Bifocal" Glasses. The latter, wliich are a perfect combination of near and distant sight in one single lens, without line of division, will form tl*e subject of another article, to apI>ear shortly in this paper.
