A nmtat of reports outlining the operations in Northern Trance, indicate that the allied forces are more ttam their own against the enemy, and have made appreciate progress at many points. A feature of the lighting is that it has, m the mate, resolved itself into a series of artillery duels, the infantry having a comparatively recralttng ; causing some anxiety, and there have heen suggestions that compulsory service should be enforced Greece is preparing for war, and large Kriipp guns are being mounted at the Dardanelles. A number pi German and Turkish coal transports have been sunk at Odessa, and the Russian in the Caucasus is marching on Erzeronin. „ Against the Austro-German forces the Russians still continue to achieve success, and have occupied the important town of Jaroslav. A number of German liners 'have been seized by H.M.S. Cumberland in West African waters. Tsiiig-tau. is said to be doomed, and shells are falling in the streets of the town. A Japanese patrol has sunk a German steamer. Further messages are also to" hand regarding the reported naval engagement off Valparaiso, but no definite details are available as yet. Details are to hand of an impudent raid in South Africa by De Wet, who has proclaimed his intention of forming a South African Republic.
