Duncan, who lias "won the amateur championship \of New Zealand on'eight occasions, ajs'o won tlio open championship three times. The history of the fihal c of the Wellington Ladies' Championship! between Mi ss B. Wood, Christchurch, and Miss L. Brandon, Wellington,. is brief and disappointing. A• hard battle was Expected, but the collapse of Miss Wood, who had been playing so well, was no doubt due to nerves, and the match was a walk over for Miss Brando'n, who was playing perfect golf up to the ninth hole, her outward round being 40—5, 5, ii, 4, 3, 6, 5, 5, and 4. , The match turned 5 up in her favour and the tenth was halved in indifferent fives. Miss Wood, after a fair drive, pulled her second but of bounds and was short with her third; Miss Brandon approached weakly and was just on the edge and in the rough, but Miss Wood, through careless putting, lost her chance to halve and Miss Brandon was 6 up. Miss Wood won the twelfth in a well-played 4 to 5. Driving to the thirteenth she sliced a fine ball and was out of bounds. Her second stroke was a beauty, and she was on the green with a perfect iron shot, but Miss Brandon made no mistakes, and holed a perfect 4 and won the match,, 6 up and 5 to play, and the first Wellington provincial open championship. for which" a beautiful cup was pre : sented' by Mr Martin Kennedy.
