AT HELIGOLAND. The German Fleet as a whole has shown no eagerness hithertp to engage its adversary ; this engagement- off Heligoland shows that it is not numbers nor weight of guns alone which has hardened it in a decision which dooms it to permanent uselessness. In this battle , the German ships fought with every advantage they are ever likely to possess, and the result has beeii not only defeat, but ignominious destruction at the hands of a foe with whom they were evidently utterly unable to cope at all. —"Daily News." THE BLOOD OF THE INNOCENT. The blood of these martyred innocents cries aloud to God for vengeance and if we pray to Him to strengthen the arm of Britain and her Allies. it is in no lust of conquest or pride of power, but in the hope that we may be made the instruments for crushing the might of an armed barbarism which has made such things possible.—Evening News" (London).
