ST. MATTHEW'S DAY SCHOOL.

PATRIOTIC tONCERT. That the patriotic concert still retains its status as the entertainment of the moment was amply proved last evening, when a concert in aid of the Britain and Belgium Relief Fund was held by the pupils of St. Matthew's Day School, the hall being filled to overflowing. The first part of the programme consisted of action and patriotic songs, and a number .of recitations, including the following:—Recitations, "Twinnies" and "Visitors;" patriotic songs, "Zealandia" and "Sons of New Zealand;" action songs, "Captain Baby Bunting" and '' Little Mothers.'' Other items were an amusing dialogue entitled '' Delay is Dangerous," ".Cherry' Blossom Drill" by the girls, a number of Japanese songs and a pianoforte duet by Masters R. and D. Ward. The enjoyment of the evening was enhanced by the playing of a number of selections by Mr Oakes 's orchesra. The entertainment was brought to a conclusion with that popular old fairy play, "Beauty and the Beast," the following children taking part:—Verna Whitehead (Beautj r ), Myra Edmonds (the Beast), Doris Tucker and Gladys Ward (Beauty's sisters), Duncan Ward (Baron Jocelorum), Gordon Ireland (Jester), Keith Henderson (Secretary).
