PIGEON FLYING.
The Ckristchurch Homing Pigeon Society held a s race from Culverden last Saturday. Sixty-tour birds were sent, divided amongst 18 owners competing. The birds were liberated..at 12.55 p.m. by the stationmaster in a nor'-west-wind, but as the birds neared home' locally they had to face •& sou'-west wind. The winner proved to be Mr W. Docherty's Destination, which flew the distance of 55 miles 1472 yds air line in lhr 19min 51sec. . The following is the order in which' each owner's ' bird finished: —W. Docherty's Destination, 1230 yds per minute; A. Finlayson's Airship, 1255; E. Fuch's Quarantine, 1244; L. Woodsford's Compass, 1224; J. Barter's Scottish Queen, 1193; E. Miles's Le Bon, 1181; J. Flewellen's Northern Queen, 1178; F. Kingsford's Little Jim, 1177; W. Turnbull's The Nuty 1175; A. Smith's Prince Soult, 1174; A. Johnson's Snowy, 1169; E. Rowe's Wheatstonev 1168; R. Pounsford's Sir Wegge, 1168; J. Inkson's Red Star, 1166; A. Farreli's Blue Star, 1164; R. Draper's Union Jack, 1158; R. M. Florin's Miss Toft, 1156; M. Gray's Cannon Ball, 1128.
