Further news of the capture of the . Comet, the German gunboat seized at the capture of Rabaul by the Australian forces, is to hand. It appears that the vessel cleared from Rabaul - upon the approach of the Australian forces. The Jewish congregation in Christfchurch held a meeting yesterday to consider a telegram from, Mr A. M. Myers, M.P., of Auckland, stating that he.had received information that 5000 destitute Jewish refugees had arrived in England.from Belgium, and asking for help for them from their co-religion-ists in New Zealand. -' It -was pointed out at the meeting that Loudon Jews had given liberally to the national funds, Bothsctiild and Sous having given £IO,OOO to the Prince of Wales's Fund, and others had subscribed as liberally, while the Jews in Christchurch had also contributed large- ' ly to the local war funds, including the fund for the relief of the poor of Great Britain, Ireland, and Belgium. A sum of £2OO was subscribed in the room, and it was resolved to make a canvass of the members of the Jewish faith in Christchurch for further contributions. The total Dominion collection will be forwarded to Mr Myers for transmission to the treasurer of the fund in England, Mr Leopold Bothsshild. BELGIUM RELIEF FUND. At a meeting of the Christclmrch Master Butchers' Association, held on Tuesday evening, the sum of £25 was voted to the Belgium Fund. At the Addington saleyards yesterday, Messrs Pyne and Co. sold, on be- , half of Messrs W. C. Bridson and W. C.Davie (Hawarden), a fat steer for £8 15/-, the proceeds to be devoted to the Belgium' Fund, 1 Mr C. J. Ward (of the firm of Messrs Einsey and Co., Ltd.), Acting-Consul t- for Belgium at Christchurch, acknowledges with thanks the receipt of £SO, being the second contribution from the Greymouth Belief Committee towards

the Belgium Relief "Fund. In the first contribution from- the Greymouth Committee an amount."of £7O was contributed by Pollard's Pictures, being the proceeds of a benefit performance given at Greymouth.
