NEW ZEALANDERS ABROAD.
The "British-Australasian" of•» September 10 contains the following items of interest to New Zealand:—
•Mr W. H. Downer, of Christchurch, has recently arrived in England. Mr F. H. Oliver, of Waipawa, arrived by the Ulysses, and expects to be here till January. Mr B. K. Hills, of Christchurch, who has been in England on holiday since the end of March, leaves for New Zea* land on September 25. Mr and Mrs Barton Rainey,of Napier, the former late superintendent of the Tyser Line at Napier, left by the s.s. Port Maequarie with their two sons. Mr, Mrs, and Miss Doris Priee and Mr Dudley Price, of Dunedin, leave by the s.s. Port Curtiss. Miss Price has been busy getting her trousseau ready in England. Mrs Minchin, of New Zealand, has offered to tafckein six officers and six men from the-New Zealand contingent durI ing convalescence at her residence, i" Torrilands," at Pinner, near Harrow. Mr C. H. Barton, of Feilding, has [recently returned from" a Norwegian I cruise. He leaves England for New i Zealand on October 2, travelling via | Suez, and hopes to spend' a fortnight in \ the East en route. i Mr C. G. Andrews, of Ashburton, has been visiting, relatives and friends in the North of England since his arrival in June. In the near future he will visit Scotland, Ireland, and other parts of the British' Isles. Mr William Maddison, of Auckland, iwho has.been staying with relatives in ! Wales and the North of England, leaves 'on his return to New Zealand by the Ulysses on the 14th inst., and will visit ! the Transvaal and Natal en route. Miss Margaret Bowen, of Christ- ! church, intends staying in England I probably eighteen months, and visiting
friends and relatives in different parts of the country and Ireland. Her quarters will be with the Rev. George Bowen, at Thrybergh Rectory, Yorkshire. Mr and Mrs H. S. Dadley, of Auckland, left London a few days ago for Bournemouth, where they are making, arrangements for their winter quarters. Miss Vere Hay, niece of Mr Dadley, has spent a year at Cheltenham Ladies 'College, and returns there next term. Mr W. L. Kennedy, of Stratford (N.Z.), who had intended sailing by; the Orama, will go instead by the Ophir on October 23; He has lately been staying wither Meredith, at High Wycombey and is going, next ;week to Liverpool. His address is the "West Central Hotel, Southampton Row, W.C. Miss Bennett, who received her hospital training; in Christehurch, and then became matron at -Stratford Hospital before going on for further experience to Canada and Ameriea, was in Paris
when the war broke out. She was brought oyer to England from Havre in a troopship, and arrived here a few days ago. Mr and Mrs D. McLeod, of Hawke's Bay, arrived in England last week from Ameriea. They travelled through Japan and Honolulu to San Francisco, and after staying with relatives in Wisconsin visited many other cities in the United States. It is their intention to spend about twa months with relatives in England and Scotland before leaving on their return to New Zealand via Europe and India. Dr and MrsJD. Walshe, of Thames, who have just returned to London from a visit to Devonshire, left for New Zealand last week. While in Edinburgh Dr Walshe took the diploma of the Fellowship of the Royal College, of Surgeons. Mrs Stringlemah and her daughter, Mrs Mogg, of Christehurch, have arrived safely in London from Switzerland.
Mrs Stringleman shortly visits Scotland. She and her daughter return home about Christmas time. :
