TRAMWAY TROUBLES.
HIGH COURT NULLIFIES AWARDS. WORKERS PROTEST STRONGLY. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright. (Received October 19, 1.45 p.m.) ADELAIDE, October 19. A meeting of tramway employees strongly protested against the High Court's decision, and resolved to take the necessary steps, even to the extent of drastic measures, to obtain recognition of the claims cf better wages and conditions. The Federal Council meets in Melbourne on Friday to consider the future action of the association. [The Federal High Court upheld the Brisbane and Adelaide Tramway Companies' application for a prohibition against the enforcement of Mr Justice Higgjns's award in the'tramway cases. The chief ground of the application was that the dispute did not extend beyond, one State, and that the ordering of preference to unionists and the providing of boards of reference went beyoml the powers of tV~ Arbitration Court. The result of the appeal means that tha whole fruits of the award... have been, lost.]
