LAWN TENNIS.
TAI TAPU CLUB. tf ' Although it is 25 years since the opening game of the Tai Tapu Lawn Tennis Club was played on the old chipped court, interest in the club's welfare has not waned. Lovely, spring weather prevailed for the opening of the season on Saturday afternoon, rand'quite a large number of visitors and local people y were present. The following clubs were represented: —Nelson, Addington, Prebbleton, Lin-" coin College, and Halswell. A telegram of good wishes for a successful opening, and of sorrow at being unable to be present, was received from Hon. R. Heaton Rhodejs, M.P. Afternoon tea was served on the lawn by the lady members of the club, and the two asphalt courts were fully occupied by- players until dusk, - PAPABUA COURTS. A match between St. James and Paparua Clubs was played on Saturday on the Paparua courts, Paparua winning by six games. Results: — MEN'S SINGLES. Jones (St. J.) beat Gallagher (P.) 9-6. Kerr (P.) beat McKay (St..-J.) 9-7. Truman (P.) beat Gardiner (St. J.) 9-2. Wallace (P.) beat Duthie (St. J.) 9-7. Joyce (P.) beat Harrison (St. J.) 9-0. LADIES' SINGLES. Miss Thompson (St. J.) beat Miss Bryden. (P.) 6-2. Mrs Christian (St. J.) beat Miss Joyce (P.) 6-4. Miss McCallum (St. J.) beat Miss Earnsliaw (P.) 6-3. Mrs Spicer (P.) beat Miss Freeman (St. J.) 6-1. Miss Truman (P.) beat Miss Christian (St. J.) 6-5. MEN'S DOUBLES. Jones and McKay (St. J.) beat Gallagher and Kerr (P.) 9-7. Truman and Joyce (P.) beat Gardiner and Dutliie (St. J.) 9-4. LADIES' DOUBLES. Misses Bryden and Joyce (P.) beat Miss Thompson and Mrs Christian (St. J.) 6-2.
