V.A.T.C. SPRING MEETING. THIRD DAY. By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright. MELBOURNE, Octber 17. The Victoria Amateur Turf Club's Spring j Meeting \v«s concluded to-day in fine, cool j weather. There was an enormous attendance, furnishing evidence that the war and the drought had not affected the racing carnival. The greatest demonstration ever i witnessed on the course greeted Uncle Sam, i winner of the Caulfleld Cup, on his return to the scalesj the horse, his owner, and jockey being cheered continuously for several minutes. J. Ettershank, his rider, justified the owner's selection, notwithstanding the criticism before the race. Uncle Sam, after being last for a mile, worked his way into second place rounding the turn, Anna Carlovna, who had the greatest number of friends, compounded four furlongs from home, and finished eleventh, while Aleconner j was seventh and Coat o' Mail last.
