FIRE BOARD.

, A meeting of the Christchurch Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon; present: —Messrs A. Williams (chairman), H. Holland, H. R Rusbridge, W. B. Mackenzie, and J. F. Grierson. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £1421 9/10. Accounts amounting to £IB3B 14/2 were passed for payment. On the superintendent 's suggestion it was decided that the fire alarm system be extended to Beckenham, North Linwood, and St. Albans, a portion of the work to be done by the, brigade staff. In view of the heavy annual fire losses in the Dominion, it was resolved to communicate with the Minister of Internal Affairs urging the installation of a system of automatic thermostat -and fire alarms in every large warehouse, factory, or business place, including hotels, boarding houses, and places of amusement, and that the same should be made compulsory, either by way of amendment to the Fire Brigades Act or by special legislation.
