DISTRICT COMPETITIONS FIRST ROUND FINISHED. The first round of the Canterbury Cricket "Association's competitions was' •Snished to-day. A fairly strong and cold wind lessened the enjoyment of the game. The wickfets were in good order. In the senior grade, the Linwood team scored a three-point win, while two-point wins were scored by the Sydenham A, Sydenham B, and East Christchurch teams. WEST CHRISTCHURCH BEATEN. West Chrfttchurch suffered a heavy defeat from East Christchurch at Haglev Park, being beaten, on the first innings, by 191 runs. The Sydenham men started off seratchily, and when Patrick returned to the pavilion few thought that the remaining men could pull through. However, Wilson and Skel- , , ton soon became acquainted, and set up a very useful partnership, putting on no fewer than 175 runs between them bef ore Bradmore got Wilson lbw, after a well played 88. A match was played at Lytteltou this afternoon between teams from the ferry steamer Wahine and the Lyttelton St. Savour's Guild. Lyttelton batting first knocked up 157 runs, the chief scorers being Parker 34, Cousins 24, C. Page 23, J. Page 19, Kempthorne 14, Voyce 13, and Murray 13. The Wahine team responded with 56 runs, Pidwell 13, and Dingwell 11 being the highest scorers. The best bowling for Lyttelton was done by Murray'(f cur for 8) and Parker (three for 14); and for the Wahine team, by Bray (two for 16), Rosie (two for 6), and Pluiumer (two for 22).
