After a passage of 99 days from Marseilles, vhich she left on July 1, the Russian' ship . Pampa arrived at Port Chalmers late on Thursday afternoon. The Pampa is the largest ® flailing vessel which has been in Port Chal- i] jmers for-some 'time, her gross register being ® 1777 tons. During the latter part of the c voyage heavy gales and severe storms were c encountered, making the passage a rough one. £ On October 3 a seaman named Saarnio died r. from appendicitis. On October 9, 10, and 11 a hurricane was experienced off the Cape of Good Hope, and a second one was run into opposite Tasmania. The Pampa has a- cargd of 850,000 tiles, of which 450,000 will be landed at the southern port, and the vessel * Will then. epine on to Lyttelton to complete 1 . iiecharge.

Lambert, of Wellington, and Captain Couldrey, of Auckland, have been appointed to act as nautical assessors at the rehearing of the enquiry into the collision between the scow Pahiki and the steamer Clansman, which occurred at Auckland recently. The rehearing will take place in the Auckland Supreme Court on Monday. At the first enquiry the blame was placed on the captain of the scow, wjiicli was sunk. Work on the Maori, which is now in dock at Port Chalmers having her stem strengthened, is proceeding satisfactorily, and she is expected to come out in a few days for painting, after which she will again go into. dock to complete overhaul. , « n.
