Cable messages to-day confirm the announcement of the substantial progress made by the Allies at some points. It is reported that the Germans in Belgium are being reinforced by half a million men. Great numbers ,of refugees, many of them in a pitiable plight, are arriving in England from Belgium. Once again mention is made of the elusive cruisers Goeben and Bresiau, which are said to be almost entirely manned by Germans. It is believed that they have recently been engaged with the Russian fleet off the coast of, Rumania. An exciting episode is reported from Scotland, a German submarine having been sunk by British vessels patrolling the coast.
