POWERFUL MOTOR LAUNCH.

A powerful launch has feeen constructed by Messrs Hoiland aifel Millar, of Northern Wairoa. The boat travels at .°>o miles an hour, and is credited with being the fastest launch in the Dominion. The hull is beautifully designed, and the propelling force is derived from the 00 h.p. engine, which was previously installed in Messrs Millar and Sandf ord 's aeroplane. The first point noticeable when the powerful engine begins to speed up is the almost entire absence of vibration, and the manner in which the craft leaps into full speed is remarkable. As way is gathered, the nose of the boat rises clear of the water, and remains in that position as long as speed is maintained. Immediately the engine is stopped, the bow, which is weighted by a sheet of lead to counterbalance as much as possible any .tendency to drag at the stern, drops to its normal position. One result of--this is that the launch, when travelling at 35 miles, can be brought practically to a standstill in its own length.
