AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
CANTERBURY CENTRE. A meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association "was held last evening. Present: Messrs H. R. Sellers (president), F. H. Salter, 0. S. W. E. Taylor, and A. L. Ctiappell. The Lincoln College Amateur Athletic Club was granted affiliation with the centre. The * appointment of a secretary, in succession to Mr t). Robertson, who has joined the Expeditionary Force, was left in the hands of the president with power to" act. The question" of arranging a programme for the eoming season was discussed. It was decided to ask affiliated clubs to furnish the centre with information as to the effect which the departure of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force has had upon their membership, so that the centre may be able to estimate the jJrospect!| for the season, and also to seek the opinion of the clubs as to the holding of a series of evening meetings. The President reported that, in accordance with the centre's instructions, the New Zealand Council's opinion, together with that of other centres, had been - sought as to the advisability or otherwise of postponing, on account of the unsettled state of affairs, the New Zealand Cross-country Championship for 1915, which had been allotted to ■Canterbury. The council and the Auckland and Wellington Centres had cided in favour of postponement, and that course* had therefore been taken. A protest against the postponement had been received from the Otago Centre.
