BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL.
ANNUAL ATHLETIC SPORTS. Studies were■'?off " at the Boys' High School to-day, and the scholars at an early hour gathered at the Hagley Park cricket ground, where the annual athletic sports in connection with the institution were held. The weather was kind. The sun shone in an almost cloudless sky, and the heat was tempered to a nicety by a'eodl breeze. The official's were as follow: —Judges, Messrs 0. E! Bevan-Brown, W. Walton, L. G. Whitehead, M. C. Gudex; starters, Messrs B. K. S.. Lawrence, A. Merton, R. M. Laing, «i. R. Montgomery; clerk of the course, Mr T. H. Jackson; timekeepers, Messrs R. H. Biggar, R. J. Thompson, W. Hoar; hnnriicappers, Messrs T. MiUiken, C. E. Guiney, and A. D. Tench; for Old Boys, M. Guthrie. L. A. Dougall, and L. 11. Parsons; committee, T. MiUiken,. C. E. Guiney, A. D. Tench, F. J. Shaw, V. W. Russell, J. H. Parker, D. C. Nixon, H. S. Nightingale, R. D. Fitch, ami H. S. Billcliff; secretary, A. W. Brown; treasurer, Mr R. J. Thompson. « The entries were numerous for and every event, but nevertheless there were few competitors to toe the mark, presumably because; of ■• the superiority shown by some. Up till the luncheon adjournment three new school records had been put up. The first was estabin the Long Jump (open), by J. H. Parker by a margin of oVin, over a record put up in 1904. The next event of note was the 440 Yants (open), iu which Parker was again to the fore, his time of s«> 4-ssee being one second better than the previous record of 54 4-sscc, by W. T. Paterson in 1909. * • The sensation of the morning, however, was in the Mile Flat, in which T. MiUiken, with his time of 4min 47sec, put, down a record of smin 5 1-osee, which had held good since 1896. He had an easy win, although he appeared to be running rather badly at the start.
