RANGIORA.
DEBATING SOCIETY. At the meeting of the committee of the Rangiora Literary and Debating Society, held last evening, it was decided to rescind the previous decision to hold a mock banquet and dance on Thursday, cert and dance instead. A committee, consisting of Misses Tutton and Scott and Messrs Tutton and Fox was appointed to carry out the arrangements. '- '"' : ' " BAND OK HOPE. "" 2 '^■■■"\ The Rangiora Band of Hope Held its monthly meeting last evening, when a very enjoyable. programme was presented to an appreciative audience. Vocal and instrumental.items comprised the programme, and an address was very ably delivered by the Rev. Clark; The prizes in connection with tile essay on '' Temperance''_ were distributed in the course of the evening by Mrs Cob-den-Cox. The prizes were donated by the W.C.T.U. ■■;": A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held at Rangiora this morning. Mr A. Mcintosh presided. Eight juvenile and three adult members were nominated.. A committee, consisting of the president and Messrs W. Foster, T. Leech, and T. J. Hunter, land the secretary, was appointed to deal with privileges and catering for the coming show. . : %A ; letter was received from Mrs M. 'Macfarlane, offering the Association a silver cup for competition in any section agreed upon by the committee. It was decided to allot the cup to the sheep section, the sheep committee to make the final decision. Mr W. B. Andrews; junr., was appointed judge of the Southdown sheep section, in place of Mr J. Deans, who w T ill be unable to judge. . Application was received through the Mayor of Rangiora, on behalf of the Borough Council, for the use of the Association's room on Tuesdays for the benefit of ladies visiting the town. The matter was left in the hands of a subcommittee. A motion of sympathy, with the owners of the wVeeked steamer Kairaki, and with the relatives of the men lost in the disaster, was passed. It was agreed that the lessee of the show grounds should be given notice to remove his cattle, and to clean up the grounds, and that next year the grounds should be leased at auction. Several rules were revised.
