TE WHAKA CLUB. A general meeting of the newly formed Te Whaka Tennis Club was held in St. Saviour's Schoolroom, Lyttelton, last evening. Rev. E. Eliot Chambers (president) occupied the chair. No reply had yet been received from the borough council in response to the club's request for a lease of the tennis courts at West Lyttelton, but the decision of the council had been announced through the newspapers. It was decided that the names of all members of the club, the membership roll of which now stands at over 60, be forwarded to the council. The question of an opening day was discussed and as the use of the courts has been granted until next council meeting it was decided to open the season on Saturday, October 10, provided a suitable arrangement could be made with the Methodist Club. The season's .subscription was fixed at 15/- for gentlemen, 7/6 ladies. In the event of the council granting the lease the committee was instructed to suggest to the club at present occupying the courts that days for playing be Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for one club, and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for the other, the two clubs to have alternate weeks. It was resolved to write to the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association with a view to affiliation, the selection of club colours being left over until the colours of other affiliated clubs can be ascertained. The name of Rev. Father Cooney was added to the list of viee-pres'ulents, subject to his consent, and Mr P. Radcliffe was elected club captain*
