CRECHE AND KINDERGARTEN.
"ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Creche and Kindergarten Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms yesterday afternoon, Mrs T. E. Taylor (president) in the chair. ~ The annual report of the Sunbeam I Kindergarten showed that during the i year the average attendance had been well maintained, beginning with 56, and i ending with 54 on the roll. It was stated that Miss Collinson, who early in the year succeeded Miss Hull, had taken up special work successfully, and had shown the greatest interest in the children. The financial. position showed that £56 5/- had been raised during the year by a sale of work, and various smaller amounts in different ways. Receipts for the year totalled £lO5 4/11, and expenditure £67 4/7, leaving a credit balance of £3B 0/4. Various improvements to the school were reported. The following ladies were elected officers for the ensuing year:—Mrs Chilton (convener), Miss Tabart (secretary and treasurer), Mesdames Anderson, Bingham, Cogan, Harvey, Kellaway, .Black," Smythe (committee). The Phillipstown Committee supplied an annual report, showing a gratifying growth of the school, the roll at present being 60. It was stated that Miss Willis, who is d« charge, fulfilled the position very ably, and the staff included Misses Box, Jones, and Curlet, who, the committee felt sure, would make excellent kindergartners. Appreciation was expressed of the services of the president, Mrs T. E. Taylor, and thanks were also expresesd to Ballantyne and Co., Strange and Co., and F. A. Cook, for 5 goods to assist in the sale of work. Sydenham Committee reported that at the annual meeting held on-August 18 Mrs Peppier -was re-elected president, Miss Peppier secretary and treasurer, and the previous committee, consisting of Mesdames Millar, Kier, Scott, Munday, Black, Schneider, Jones, and
Derritt and Miss Adams. A special vote of thanks to Mrs Millar was moved, seconded, and carried unanimously. Satisfactory progress in the school was reported. The annual report of the Creche and Kindergarten Association showed that it<was three years since the Association had been formed. The' committee was glad to say" that the kindergarten trainers had" now . the opportunity of working and training for a Government kindergarten diploma, which gave them a status in educational circles equal to that afforded by the Australian diploma, of the Elementary Froebel Certificate, and, later on, of being able to enter the employ of the, Education Department. As Miss Bussell arid Miss Gollinson had completed their two years' practical training with the Association in December, 1912, they were entitled to the full local certifieatesj which were, therefore, presented to these ladiesJ They are in charge of Sydenham and. Sunbeam respectively. ThOeport stated that during the year a set of Montessori materials had been purchased by the Association, and had been found very 'useful. '■ Thanks were given .to Miss Inkpen for I supervising the work of the students being trained by Miss Hull, whose appointment to the position of trainer was niade at the beginning of the year.' Quite a feature of the work was the number of mothers'educational and social meetings held throughout the year. The balance-sheet showed receipts amounting to £772 0/5, and expenditure aggregating £717 19/1, leaving a credit balance of £54 1/6. The report and balance-sheet were adopted without dissent. • The following officers were elected:—President, Mrs T. E.. Taylor; Vice-pre-sident, Mesdames Chilton, Khodes, Wigram, and Miss Taba,rt; secretaries, Mrs J.; B. Evans and Mrs Langford; treasurer, Miss Cocks; committee, Mesdames Chilton, Eusom, Fountain, McCombs, Langford, Millar, Peppier, Morton, Williams, Wells,- Wilson, Bingham, Misses Tabart and Inkpen, and Mr J. McCaughley; medical officers, Drs Ethel' Sands and Jessie Maddison; hon. solici- \ tors, Messrs Taylor, Cuningham, and i Salter; advisory board, Dr Chilton, Messrs Hallenstein and Mcßride. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the president (Mrs T. E..Taylor), the honorary secretary (Mrs J. B. Evans), the Press, the Y.M.C.A., the solicitors,
auditors, agent (Mrs E. Gross), and treasurer (Miss Cocks). The presentation of the Government certificates to Misses Bussell and Collinson concluded the formal business set' down for the meeting.
