WELLINGTON CRICKET.
In its annual report, the Wellington Cricket Association states that, although it. was anticipated that the profits from the representative matehes to be played during the season would be considerable, the wet weather experienced interfered with the gate receipts. The problem of reducing the association's indebtedness and of placing it in a sound financial position received the committee's attention. The art union resulted in a profit of £331 9/5, £22 0/6 of which was brought into last year's statement, thus leaving a profit of £309 8/11 for 1913-14. The profit in all representative matches played during the season was £3l 8/6, although the cost of sending teams away amounted to about £137. The present n'umber of honorary members is 120, and: if 300 such menibers could be secured for the coming season the success of the association would be secured. Attention is drawn to the fact that, although the ordinary revenue (excluding the art union receipts) was exceeded by the expenditure to the extent of about £l3, the extraordinary expense of £65 18/9 —the association's contribution to the tour of the New Zealand team —had to be met. But for this the season's working would have resulted in a reduction of the debt of £52 18/9. The committee > adds that during the coming season ..there will be matches against' Canterbury and Otago, and probably against Southland, Marlborough, Wanganui, and the New South Wales teachers' teams, all to be played at Wellington. Wellington, in its turn, is due to visit Auckland. These arrangements may, however, be suspended on account of the European war.
