COST OF CABLES.
AGITATION IN AUSTRALIA. A PROMISE IN ENGLAND. : 0 - By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright. SYDNEY, September 21. The Chamber of Commerce is asking the Eastern and Pacific Cable Boards to reduce the cable Tate, owing to the «xtra cost of transmitting in plain language. Both boaTds are considering the request. The Eastern Company is already overloaded, and is unlikely to obtain a further increase in traffic by reducing the rates. The manager states that Australia at present is better serve 1 than any other country, ,and that the delay by the China route is much greater.

In the House of Commons Mr C. E. JSobhouse, Postmaster-General, stated that he hoped to shortly announce that the cost of cabling to countries outside the European system had been substantially reduced.
