NOTES. Yesterday morning tlie Commonwealth and Bominion Line's Star of Australia returned to LytteJton from Dunedin in order to take up loading frozen meat and produce for London. Jshe will leave for Gisborne early to-morrow afternoon to continue her Homeward loading. The Kaikoura arrived at Timwu yesterday afternoon from Lyttelton. She will leave for dunedin to-morrow afternoon to continue her Homeward loading. f It is expected that the Wakatu will load on Wednesday: for Kaikoura.
The Westralia will return from Dunedin 011 ■Wednesday morning, and will load a large cargo of produce for northern ports.- She ■will sail on Wednesday evening.
The Ulimaroa is due to arrive .at Lyt teiton on Thursday morning. After discharging and loading she will leave for Sydney. Tia Wellington, that evening.
ARRIVAL OF THE OPAWA. Early on Friday morning the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Opawa arrived off .Otago Heads. After discharging 40 tons of explosives at the magazine anchorage, she was berthed.at the Bowen pier at Port Chalmers. She left London on August 3, and experienced fiive weather to Teneriife, which was passed on the 9th. The weather continued moderate until the Cape of Good Hope ■was rounded at 4 a.m. on the 25th, when a heavy north-west swell was encountered. The ■vessel then ran into bad weather, and a succession of gales, accompanied by fierce hail squalls, were experienced across the Southern Ocean. The Opawa has cargo for Dunedin, Lyttelton, Bluff, and Suva. On arrival her draught was 23ft 4in aft and 23ft sin forward. She will land portion of her cargo at Port Chalmers before coming up to Dunedin to put out the remainder. Captain H. C. Barnes is in command, and
