FEVER ON THE COAST.
Press Association. GREYMOUTH, September 18. The local health authorities are moving in the direction of taking extra precautionary measures to stamp out scarlet fever* the first case of which was reported in this district nine months ago. At present there are 10 cases in the hospital and six to be admitted. There are also two cases of diphtheria, one of which proved fatal, children principally being affected..
At the Magistrate's Court this morning Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., delivered reserved judgment in the case of Henry Nutt, charged on two counts, of robbing swans' nests and taking swans' eggs, on his property at Motukarara. His Worship ruled that the Statute law overruled the common law rights that a man has to take from his own land; and entered a conviction on the charge of robbing swans' nests, the other charge being withdrawa.
