UNITED CLUB.

BOWLING, TENNIS, AND CROQUET The report of the United Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club, presented at the annual meeting last night, stated that the total membership was about the same as last year, but the bowling section showed an increased membership of 64, and the membership of the tennis section was 148, as against" 144 last season. Since the close 1 of the* season in March a good deal of work had been done to the grounds, and it was intended to lay one acre down in grass for tennis lawns, which should be ready for play the following year. The club's in* debtedness had been reduced by £25. 'Both the tennis and croquet sections had had a very successful season. At Christmas the Canterbury Croquet Association's tournament -was held on the club's grounds, and Miss L. Rutherford won the New Zealand Doubles for, the second time. P. A. Lawrie was runnerup for the New Zealand Championship, Miss L. Rutherford won the New Zealand Ladies' Championship, and H. A. Penn won the Canterbury Championship. United Club won the Junior Flag in the inter-club flag competition. The balance-sheet showed an overdraft of £246 12/-.—The report and balancesheet were adopted. The incoming committee was instructed to go into the matter of improving the tennis courts as the new courts would not be available until the 1915 season. The secretary stated that the grounds would be ready for opening on October 10.

The following officers were elected: — President) Mr A. Borrows; vice-presi-dents, Messrs E. J. Ross and J. Woolf; secretary -and treasurer, Mr P. A. Laurie; committee, Messrs W. Gross and R. D. Harinan (tennis), J. Brown and A. F. Spiller (bowling), and P. A. Laurie and G. Robinson (croquet); hon. auditor, Mr E. J. Tayler. The Sectional Tenuis Committee was elected as follow: —Messrs G. L. Berry, R. D. Harinan, S. W. Jameson, E. J. Tayler; secretary, Mr C. A. E. Ferguson; delegates to Canterbury Lawu Tennis Association, Messrs W. Inglis, S. W. Jameson, and E. J. Tayler. The retiring president and officers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
