' It is understood that an amicable settlement has been arrived at in the action for damages which J. Tasker instituted against the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club. A jockey named Anderton, belonging to Murray Hobbs's stable, was admitted to'the out-patients' ward of the hospital this morning, suffering from a fractured leg. His leg was broken about twelve months ago, and was knocked in the same place while practising at the barrier this morning. Anna Carlovna 's defeat in the Heatherline Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday does not promise too well for her Caulfield Cup prospects. Already she has been heavily supported for that event -—in which she is nicely handicapped at 8.3, —and her owner will no doubt be pleased that neither Isi Gama nor Philio, who finished in front of her on Saturday, figure in next month's event. As the result of rather serious injuries to one of her hocks, Winning Way is unlikely to race again, and the speedy, daughter of Cannie Chiel will probably go to the stud. W. Bell will do the riding for M. Hobbs's stable at the Ashburton meeting,; at which fixture Hobbs has six representatives engaged. Should the means of transport be convenient, Mr G. D.
