THE PATRIOTIC FUNDS.

A GENEROUS RESPONSE." SUBSCRIPTIONS TOTAiL £150,000. [From our own Parliamentary Reporter.]. WELLINGTON, August 27.' In the House of Representatives tor night the Prime Minister stated that up to the present a sum of £6202 7/2 had been actually received by the Government towards the patriotic funds. In addition there were promises representing £30,(333 17/4. Motor cars had been received of a value of £6441 15/-, and the total, not including horses, reached £99,077. Horses worth £13,000 had been presented for the use of the Expeditionary Force, and that, brought the total to £113,000. * In addition to the patriotic fund there was the Lady Liverpool Fund, and the distress funds for people in New Zealand", Great Britain, and Belf gium. Altogether the funds must iioav represent a total amount of not less than £150,000. He thought hon. members would agree that the people of the Dominion had done wonderfully well, and it was quite evident that this and other oversea dominions were determined to see the war through to a satisfactory conclusion, whatever it might cost. Sir Joseph Ward said that the spontaneous way in which the people had responded must be impressive, taking into consideration our population, to people beyond our shores. The fact that £150,000 had' been given went to show that the people in a practical way were willing to help this position through to the very end. (Hear, hear.) There were hundreds of others besides those read out by the Prime Minister who were assisting in their smaller way, and credit should be given to them also. (Hear, hear.) It was decided that a full list of those who have made donations to the various funds should be published in Hansard as a national record.
