GERMANS IN FRANCE. FIGHTING NEAR THE FRONTIER. 1 The High Commissioner reports as follows: ti'ONDON, August 27, 10.15 p.jp. As a result of the Navy clearing the routes, Siberian butter, eggs, and timber, usually sent to Germany, is coming to England. The Anglo-French lines have slightly withdrawn from the frontier. The German, advance has been resisted. Engagements are proceeding at Cambrai and Gateau, and the general impression is that the situation is favourable." " The Russians are advancing in East Frussia, and are converging their forces. The advance in Galicia has . been rapid. ■ Tha Austrians have been driven beyond Lypa. The French operations in the war are extending for two hundred and fifty miles, and this has necessitated changing their position.
