THE SHIPPING MONOPOLY. To the Editor of THE SUM". Sir, —The thanks of the community are due to you for your exposure of the shameless exploiting policy to be persued by the shipping ring at a time like the present. The chairman of the Chamber of Commerce was iitterly wrong in saying it was not a question for the Chamber. What else is .the Chamber for than to protect the general interests of tlie business community-? The Farmers' Union took a very firm attitude, and it behoves these and kindred bodies throughout the Dominion to at once call upon the Government to either check the rapacity of the ring, or, better still, to charter boats, and take the producers' stuff Home at reasonable rates. Besides doing the producer ( yeoman service it would most probably result in a sweeping victory in every country constituency'in New Zealand when the elections are held.:—l am, etc., > : <• SIIY LOCK.
