EMPLOYMENT OF DRIVERS
COMPROMISE EFFECTED. Press Aitociu'ion. •DUNKDIN, August 27. A conference has been held between delegates comprising the executive of the Dunediii Drivers' Union and the Curriers' and Coal Merchants Union of Employers. The object of the conference was to consider some proposal to meet the. serious disorganisation of trade caused by the war. The president of the Master Carriers' Union suggested the suspension of clause 11 of the Drivers Award, viz.:—ln the case of drivers other than casual hands, a week's notice of dismissal or resignation shall be given by the employer, or the worker. The delegates of the union agreed to this suggestion, recognising that a compromise was iruc'essary, so that all drivers might get a fair share of work. It is understood that as the award is a Dominion one, any proposal agreed to here would require the assent of the other centres, and would have to be confirmed by the Arbitration Court.
