CLUB WORKERS.
NOT JOINED TO AWAED. Press Association. WELLINGTON. August 13. Judgment was iiled in the Arbitration Court to-day on an application which was made on behalf of the Wellington hotel workers to add clubs to the award. Iu the .judgment it was pointed out that under section 71 of the Conciliation and Arbitration Act a worker who is employed otherwise than for the direct or indirect pecuniary gain of the employer is exempt from the provision of the award. It followed, therefore, that clubs which are not conducted for the purpose of pecuniary gain and which are not bodies corporate, are exempt. In regard to clubs which are bodies corporate the court has jurisdiction to join them as parties to an award, but if such clubs are not carried on for the purpose of pecuniary gain the court would, in the exercise of its discretionary powers, decline to join them as parties to an award.
