COUNTRY RUGBY.

KIRWEE v. SPRINGFIfcLD.

The final match in the Malvern Subunion Competition was played on Saturday at Springfield. Kir wee beat Springfield by 6 points to 3. G. Burgess scored 2 tries for Kirwee and Haughey 1 try for Springfield. The ground was very greasy owing to rain and snow oil the Friday night. Springfield kicked off and soon had Kirwee defending, but after give and take play the game settled near the centre, where a series of scrums followed. Springfield had slightly the best of the play. Moore had a shot from a penalty, just missing a goal, and Kirwee forcing. From the dropout play went to the other end, but soon came back. From loose play the ball went out to Haughey, who scored, wide out. Moore's kick failed. An exchange of kicks between the backs brought play to the centre again. Much uninteresting play followed, until from a scrum at halfway the ball came out to McMeekan, who made a fine run to within a- few yards of the line, where he passed in to G. Burgess, who had followed up fast and who scored a fine try, equalising the score. Burgess took the kick himself, but just missed by inclies, the whistle sounding half time shortly, after the kick out. On resuming, an exchange of kicks followed until Roper found touch near the twenty-five. From the line-out Springfield obtained possession and Moore made a fine run, only to lose, the ball when near scoring. From this to the end Kirwee had all the better of the play, the ball rarely being on their half of the ground. " Although Kirwee made vigorous attempts to score, good collaring by their opponents stopped them for a time, chiefly through "the assistance, of Moore, who'was playing splendidly on defence. From a scrum the ball again came to McMeekan, who passed to G. Burgess, who outpaced the opposing backs and scored his second try. His kick at goal failed. Soon after the whistle sounded, leaving Kir-: wee winners of the competition, they having lost only one game through theseason. Mr Geo. Butler was the referee.
