HUMANE SOCIETY.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. Seven members, including the President (Colonel H., Slater, VJD.) attended the annual meeting of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand, held in the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet —which have been ab-eady summarised in THE SUN —the president remarked that it was evident that the members of the Society were well pleased with the work of the directors; otherwise —it could be presumed—they would have been present to express their displeasure. So the small attendance could be taken as an indication of confidence in the officers.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Officers were re-elected a*s follow: — President, Colonel H. Slater, V.D.; vice-presidents, Mayors of fourteen cities and boroughs; court of directors, Colonel Slater, Colonel Snow, Canon W. S. Bean, Eev. E. Eliot Chambers, V.D., Dr C. J. Russell, and Messrs J. A. Frostick, H. B. Kirk, and R. C. Bishop; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr E. Smith; hon. auditor, Mr W. Jameson.

Mr H. B. Kirk, of Timaru, and -Mr A. Juriss, of Oamaru, were elected lifemembers of the Society. Votes of thanks were passed to the police force, for assistance in furthering the objects of the Society, the Press, and the officers of the Society. On the suggestion of Dr Russell, the. directors w r ere recommended to set up a sub-committee to confer with the Royal Life Saving Society as to the best means of encouraging among children under 16 years of age the learning of methods of saving life.
