SUMNER NOTES.
The Sumner Presbyterian Church Committee have arranged for another concert to be given iu the town hall on August 6. A splendid programme has been arranged, and the proceeds are to go towards buying a section for the church. A social kitchen afternon was held; by the Ladies' Guild" in the Methodist ''Church on Thursday, there was a large •attendance, and over JJCNpresents were/ received-for the forthcoming bazaar. The ladies- of Sumner farewelled Mrs Pieston (who is leavng for England) ft the Cadena Tea Rooms on Friday afternoon. The Mayoress (Mrs G. W. C. Smithson) presided. Mrs Cooper, Iu f humorous and appropriate v. ished Mrs Preston a pleasant voyage and safe return. Mrs Preston was the .recipient of several presents, which one suitably acknowledged and thanked r.he gathering for their kindness. Musical items were givon by Mrs I. Wilson, M*ss Pender, Mrs Tait, Mrs D. Bain, and Mrs .!. ]•]. Stevens. A progressive euchre social was held iu the Redcliffs School on Friday t \ cuing, the function being held to farewell Mr Hawke and Miss Rankin, who have been in charge of the school during > the absence of the headmaster in England. The progressive euchre priues were won by Miss Partridge and Mr E. Kawke. Mr Cunimings. (chairman of the School Committee) presented Miss Rankin with a peggy» bag and Mr liMvke with a brief bag. Mr Hawke (suitably responded on behalf of Miss Rankin and himself. Mr and Mrs Kirkpatrick, the headmaster and mistress, were also welcomed home again. A very enjoyable evening was spent, and uanciug was kept -up till midnight.
