ELLIS WINS WELL.

JOHNNY SCHIFF OUTCLASSED.

Prank Ellis, the clever Wellington feather-weight, seems to have had a very easy win over American Johnny Schiff, at Newtown Olympia, Sydney, last week.

The Sydney "Sun's" report of the bout is as follows: —"The .contest was at every stage practically a one-sided one, and when Schiff's towel fluttered in at the end of the eleventh session, signifying a truce, there was little surprise shown by the audience. Ellis started off by driving both weapons herd to the jaw, and maintaining a vigorous attack in the clinches; but he was somewhat disconcerted when Schiff replied with a right swing to the head, which was sent out with force and speed. He -connected this weapon several times during- the opening stages, also a left hook; "but Ellis was moving awav, and the blows lost their sting. In the second term Ellis had the American retreating from one corner to another. He bothered him with a straight loft, and when he got him near the ropes went in and pummelled the body with great vim, at times making Schiff almost double up by the force of his onslaughts. The methods of the American were more amusing than skilful. He was kept busily defending, and used the clinches for all he was worth to prolong a spell. Schiff, however, was not laeking in grit. He took with a smile all the punishment that Ellis heaped upon ...him. The American kept his opponent away better in the fourth term, and in the fifth and sixth used his swings, for the head with more precision. He also took a hand at the infighting, but Ellis was putting in more effective work there. Prom the seventh (Schiff) although he rallied at intervals, was completely done. He was belted about face and body from that out to the end, Things were made so torrid for him during the last two rounds that the crowd kept calling for the towel, and, as if in answer to its cries, a halt was called at the finish of the eleventh term. Each boxers ™S™ v.-as announced at 9st 011b. Wally W.eekes' was referee."
