THE ENGINEERS' DEMANDS.
(Received July 25, 9.50 a.m.) r . BRISBANE, July 25. The Amalgamated Society of Railway Engineers has demanded an increase of pay for its members working on the railways; also a reduction of hours to forty-four weekly, and other concessions. A strike is threatened.
RIOTERS AND CAVALRY.

OTTAWA, July 24,
Strike riots occurred at St. John's, in Avhich cavalrymen charged a mob of several thousand people, striking them with the flat of their sabres. Many were seriously injured, but order was restored.
