Owing to unfavourable, weather to-day, it has been decided ,to delay the departure of the Corinna and the Te Anau for Dunedin until to-morrow. The Peninsula and Oriental Steam Navigation Company is building two magnificent 15,000-ton steamers for the Australian trade. The Union Company's Kini, at latest ad vice, was barbound at Greymouth, but it was hoped to dispatch her this evening for Lyttelton. The Pukaki is due from Tiinaru tomorrow to take up the Taviuni's time-table •running, and the Flora should be liore on Monday. N.Z. CO.S LINE. The Whakatane left Monte Video at noon on 23rd inst The Tongariro left Teneriffe for London at 6 j>.m. on the 24th inst. The from Montreal, left Durban on the 23rd inst., and is due at Adelaide about August 14. The chartered steamer Knight of the Garter left Montreal on the 24th inst. for Australian and New Zealand ports. The Otaki is to leave Waitara this (Saturday) evening for Timaru, thence to Lyttelton. , NEW BATTLESHIPS. It is officially announced (says the London "Shipping World") that Messrs Palmer's Shipbuilding and Iron Company, Ltd., of Jarrow-on-Tyne, and the Fairfield Shipbuilding Company, Ltd., of Govan, have each.received a provisional order from the Admiralty to supply the hull and machinery of a battleship for the Navy. These are two of the four battleships of the present year's programme. Mr Churchill promised to expedite the beginning of these two vessels in view of the impasse in Canada. They will be of the improved Royal Sovereign class, with a displacement of 25,000 tons and a speed of 21J knots. Over £350,000 is provided in the Estimates of this year for each of these vessels. The other two battleships —one of the Royal Sovereign ajad one of the Queen Elizabeth class—will be laid down later in the" year at Devonport and Portsmouth dockyards resp'ectirely. • The Jarrow vessel will be named Repulse, the Fairfield vessel Renown, the Devonport vessel Resistance, and the Portsmouth vessel Agincourt.
