BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the executive comirritteo of the Christchurch Beautifying Association. was held on last, July. 21. Present: Messrs A. Kaye (chairman), E. Smith, R. Hill Fisher, S. Hurst Seager, A. D. Dobson, and Dr C. Chilton. Permission having been granted by the City Council to plant trees in Mansfield Avenue and Webb Street, it was decided to plant silver birches in the former and mountain ash in the latter. This work will be carried out at once.
The secretary reported that the ,Woric in connection with the beautifying of the banks of the Wairarapa stream was well in hand, and that donations had been promised by several of the residents. It is the intention of the association t® slope the bank of the stream and plant it with native trees and double flowering cherries. • »
Application was made to the Woolston Borough Council. to continue the planting of trees on Linwood Avenue from Aldwin's Road to Linwood Park. A reply was received stating that the council could not see its way to grant permission, as objections had been made against similar proposals by residents of the locality on various grounds. The question of offering prizes for the improvement and alteration of the tramway shelter in Cathedral Square was left over until the next meeting of the association.
