The Immigration Department ordered Captain Yamamato, of the Komagata Maru, to leave the harbour with his Hindu passengers. Captain Yamamato tried to raise steam, but the Hindus attacked him with clubs and obliged him to leave the ship. The owners' agent warned „the Hindus that he would bring police aboard and conduct them outside the three-mile limit and leave them to starve Or find their way home. The Hindus defied the authorities, refusing to leave Canadian waters until their passages had been refunded and provisions granted them. The deadlock continues. The Hindus aboard the Komagata Maru beat off 200 police and immigration officials when an endeavour was made to tow the Komagata Maru seaward. Several police were wounded. The Hindus shot an unknown man fatally. MILITIA AND SAILORS. STERNER MEASURES TO BE USED
(Received July.2o, 13.30 a*m.) VANCOUVER, July 1,9. There is much against the Hindus, as a result of the riotous affray in which the force of police and immigration officials was beaten back when they attempted to compel the captain of the Komagata Maru to leave the harbour. The Canadian Government has authorised the, employment of militia, and, if necessary, of the sailors of the Canadian cruiser Rainbow. The. injured men are recovering. The casualties amongst the Hindus are not known.
