Mrs Denniston left for Wellington last night. Mr and Mrs F. Davie are at present in Christchurch. Mr Wales, of Dunedin, is at present on a visit to Christchurch, and is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr and Mrs John Sheridan, of Gisborne, arrived in town this morning, and are staying at Warner's Hotel. Mr Harvey J. Brunt, of the Christchurch Postal staff, returned this morning from his visit to Milwaukee, America. Mr R. English, president of the Canterbury Football Association, was a passenger to Wellington by the Maunganui last evening. Mr and Mrs T. Bunting leave Auckland on' Monday next, en route for England. They expect to be away from Christchurch for two years. Messrs D. Laishmann (Hanmer), D. McKimpio (Auckland), Allan Bruce (Melbourne), W. E. Kinnerney (Timaru), and L. E. Finch (Timaru), arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Among the passengers for the north by the Maunganui last evening was E. A. Cockroft, the South Canterbury footballer, who is proceeding to Sydney to join the New Zealand team. Mr H. G. Corbett, solicitor, has severed his connection with the firm of Messrs Cuningham and Taylor, and left last night, for the North. He is to take charge of a branch at Kohukohu for Messrs Parr and Blomfield, of Auckland. Mr L. Wyber, been on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Gore for the past four years, has received notice of his promotion and transfer to the Wanganui branch of the bank. , ' Mr Annand Jerome, who is controlling Mischa Eknan's tour of New Zealand, arrived in Christchurch from the South last evening. Mischa Elman will arriye in Christchurch from Dunedin by the first express to-night. Messrs A. H. Bourn, M. S. Brown, and S. Loudin left last evening, en route for Australia. They will probably take part in the bowling matches in New South Wales on the return of the New Zealand bowlers from Queensland. Mrs J. R. Rule, who is leaving Ashburton for Geraldine, was presented by the members of the St. Stephen's branch of the Ladies' Guild on Wednesday with a silver-mounted hairbrush and hand mirror. The president (Mrs J. R. Burgin) made the presentation. ' .
At St. Mary's Church schoolroom, Addington, last evening, Mr W. E. Earnshaw, who is leaving for Wellington to-morrow, was presented by Mrs Bean (in the absence of Canon Bean) with a gold watch suitably inscribed. The presentation was made on behalf of the parishioners. The death has occurred at Parnell, Auckland, of Captain Edward Stephenson, at the age- of 66. The' deceased, who was One of the most popular and experienced shipmasters trading out of Auckland, had been associated with the Auckland coastal service for the past thirty-five years, and there was probably no man more conversant than he with the navigation of the New Zealand coast. He was a sdn of the late Samuel Stephenson, who was a merchant at Russell, in the Bay of Islands, in the early days of the Colony.
