44 HOLD YOUR TONGUE!" SERGEANT AND SOLICITOR. The taxi driver (John Whitty) coneerned in the recent collision on the Brighton Road was called in the Magistrate 's Court this morning, before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M. Mr Hunt appeared for defendant, who was charged with failing to stop his car when an accident had occurred. "I ask for a remand, sir, for a week," said counsel, "he was only served at six o'clock last night." "He was served at midday yesterday," said Senior : Sergeant MathieBon. "It was served on his father in his absence," said Mr Hunt. "I object to any remand," said the sergeant. '' I consider I am perfectly justified in asking this," said Mr Hunt. "Not only do I want to see the spot, but I nvant to hear witnesses." '' There will be quite a number of informations against this man " "That's no reason for objecting," interrupted Mr Hunt. '< You hold your tongue, I'm speaking mow!" said the Senior-Sergeant heated"l object, your Worship, to such language," said Mr Hunt, warmly. Mr Alpers, who was also in Court, rose in a white heat, of indignation and icok the floor.. "Sir," he said, "as a member of the bar I outer my protest against a policeman speaking like this to any member of my profession." The Senior-Sergeant sat down after Ihis' protest and the adjournment was granted for a week.
