A REFORM CANDIDATE.

FOR RICCARTON SEAT. ME GORDON HARPER. Mr Gordon Harper, a son of Mr Geo. Harper, has been selected as the Reform candidate for the Riccarton electorate. The selection was made at a meeting last night of the Riccarton Branch of the Political Reform League. Mr J. J. Dougall, president of the Junior Reform League, presided. -Two candidates for

nomination —Mr Gordon Harper an J Mr B. Bunn—-were present, and each gave a short' address on Dominion . polities. A ballot of those present was taken, and Mr Harper secured the majority of votes. A committee was formed to forward his candidature as the Government candidate.

Mr Harper is a New Zealander born, Papanui being his birthplace. He was educated at the Christehurch Boys' High School. After leaving school he went to Canada, where he remained for three years "roughing it" in lumber camps jand cattle ranches. On his return to New Zealand he was. shepherding for | a time in the Mackenzie Country, and [ later he took up a Crown, land section in the Amuri district. '
