LATE COMMERCIAL.
FROZEN MEAT MARKET. Messrs J. H. Turubull and Co. have received the following advice from W» Weddel and Co., Ltd.:— Lambs—The Whitsun holiday has interfered somewhat with the trade at Smithfield this week, and a quiet demand lias beet experienced. Small weight.lambs are still in short supply. Canterbury lambs are a steady sale at 6 5-16 d" per lb for-the u/361bs, 6 3-16 A per lb for the 36/421bs and 6 l-16d per lb for the o/421b. Small secondary lambs of this class realise 6id per lb. All descriptions of North Island lambs are scarce and prime qualities realise 6 3-16 d per lb for. the small and medium weights. Ordinary brands sell at 6<T per Jb ftfr the same grades. ' Small seconds of this description have'beea sold this week at 6Sd per lb. Australian lambs have been a steady sale and values are on a level with those quoted last week. We quote to-day g.a.q. u/«J6lb at to 5Jd per lb, 3G/42Ibs at per lb," and 0/421b at 58d per lb. F.a.q. lambs of small weight are quoted at 5 11-16 d per lb. River Plate lambs are unchange.d at sjd to s|d per lb. Patagonian lambs have been sold this week at s|d ' per lb for the medium, weights. Mutton.—The trade at Smitlifield this, week for frozen mutton has been fairly satisfactory, the only difficulty still / being heavy sheep, which are'moving 7 : slowly. / Prime Canterburyvsheep a,re quoted at 3Jd to ' 4jj d per lb, and the o/(i4lbs. at 3|cL to 31d.per.lb. Ew.es aop quoted'at 3jd to 3&d per lb for th® 4 t .heavy.-.weights. and 3§d to 3|d per lb for the medium and light - weights. -There has been-;a very godd enquiry fdr . small :mutton and witb stocks rather short it has not been difficult to realise 3fd per lb for f.a.q. and g.a.q. qualities. Medium weight ear- i cases, sell slowly at 33d to 3M per lb. Heavy weight carcases are difficult to move at over 3]d per lb. Eiver Plate sheep are quoted at 3§d to 4d per'lb. Frozen Beef.-—The position of frozea fores and Australian crops is practically unchanged from our last advices. Crops' sell slowly at 3§d per lb, but Australian hindquarters are well enquired for at to 4 5-16 d per lb. . River Plate fores are Selling at 3sd per lb, and hinds at 43d to 4£d per lb. * NewZealand beef realises 3id to 3£d per lb for fores and 4§d per lb for hinds. Chilled Beef.—A steady trade has been experienced for chilled hindquarters, and these close at s|d to s§d per lb. Foreqiiarters, however, have sold slowly'at 38d to s£d per lb.
Messrs A. H. Turnbull and Co. have cabled advice from Messrs W. Weddell and Co. this morning of shipments to the United Kingdom since their last advices as follows: —Argentine, 26,000 quarters frozen, beef, 65,000 quarters chilled beef, 67,000 carcases mutton, 9500 carcases lamb.
