SUMNER NOTES.
The annual meeting of the Sumner Brass Band was held in the band room 011 Monday evening, Mr G. Brewer presiding over a large attendance. The sixth annual report stated that the band had had a very successful year, having fulfilled 25 engagements, eight benefit concerts, and ten municipal concerts. The receipts were £37 5/5, expenditure £l7 1/3, leaving a credit balance of £2O 4/2. A letter of thanks was received from the local branch of the Children ? s Fresh Air llomeFund, thanking the band for giving its services in aid of the fund. A medal presented by the conductor (Mr W. Teuton) for the best attendance was won by Mr 0. Lindrose, with 10:2 attendances out of a possible 10.".. Mr F Lindrosc was second with 101 attendances, and .Messrs G. Newman and \V. (.'alter tliird, with 100. The 3o 1 - lowing officers were elected: —Patron, Mr ll. B W. C. Smithson; president, Mr G. Humphreys; vice-presidents, Messrs J. .1 ilingworth,' W. Hobday, T. A. drum major, J. C. Collins; committee, W. Carter, P. Fl'uety, S. Gallop, W. Boss, and P. Lawson. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Sumner School Committee was held on Monday evening. Present: —Mr D. Lumsden (chairman), Mesdames Fountain and Ferguson, Messrs Lang and K. Bassett. The Education Board wrote stating that the committee's application for the stove for the schoolroom had been re- . ferred to the Building Committee, and also the board is now calling tenders for additions to the school. The committee decided to ask the board to erect temporary accommodation until the school is finished. The headmaster's, report stated that there were 211 on the roll, with an average attendance of 187. The half yearly inspection of the school took place on the 7th, by Inspectors Brock and Mayne. The Education Board also wrote stating that the trees asked for planting on' Arbor Day had been ordered.
