RANGIORA.

The Loyal Orange Lodge, No. 37, held its annual social and dance on Friday in.the Oddfellows' Hall. There was a very large gathering. Several musical items were contributed during the evening by Messrs D. Gray, B. Whisker, and N. H. M'Neely, and dancing was continued until an early hours this morning. COUNTY COUNCIL. • At the ordinary monthly meeting of the council, there were present: — Messrs F. Horrell (chairman), W. Stalker, H. Garrett, L. W. Campion, and H. Tullatt.

Mr F. Horrell moved that a general rate of §d in the £ on capital value of rateable property in Rangiora Riding, and a general rate of *d on capital value of rateable property in the Cust Riding, be levied, to commence on April 1, 1914, and end on March 31, 1915, in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1908, such rates to be due and payable in one sum on August 1, 1914. This was carried. The clerk was instructed to write to the teriant of Mr King's property to grub the road frontage of his property. A petition was- received, signed by nine ratepayers, asking the council to take steps to have willows overhanging the No. 1 Drain Road, below Mrs Summers's, taken down. It was resolved that the usual notice be given. The council agreed that an border be made on Mi's M. M'Farlaue to remove the trees on R.S. 3029 which were overhanging and damaging Gresson's Road, by the Waikaku stream. The chairman and Mr H. Tullatt were appointed delegates to attend the meeting to be held in Christchurch on August (3, with a view to forming a counties' association. W was agreed to give notice to all those having gorse and broom growing on their road' frontages to grid) same. £IOO FLOI/OHING MATCH. The North Canterbury Ploughing Match Association held its annual supper at Templar Hall on Friday evening. There was a very large gathering, the hall being packed. During the course of the evening Mr A. S. Clarkson stated that he intended moving, at the next general meeting of his. association, that a £IOO ploughing' championship match be held next year, in the vicinity of Christchurch, and so make it worth while for young ploughmen to come from north and south to compete. A very enjoyable evening was spent by those who attended the function.
