MARRIED OR SINGLE.

MORTALITY RETURNS. SOME INTERESTING STATISTICS. By Cable. —Prtss Association. —Copyright. (Received July 10, 9.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 10. The Commonwealth statistician publishes statistics dealing with the mortality of single and married persons. In the case of males the rates of mortality "are markedly lighter for married people. Throughout life, in some important ages, the rate for single men is fifty, sixty, and even seventy per centum in excess of the married men of corresponding ages. In the case of females the opposite tendency holds, between the ages of fifteen and iorty-four inclusive. Tl\e rate for married females ranges from six to eighty per centum in excess of the rate for single women. The selective influence of matrimony, consequent on the rejection of unsuitables, is considered to be an important factor, particularly in the case of males.
