RANGIORA.

There was a large gathering of over 200 people at the Drill Hall last evening, at the progressive euchre and social gathering in aid of the Catholic Church choir fund. The ladies' prize was won by Mrs Dix, the consolation by Miss Faliey. The winner of the gentlemen 's prize was Mr P. Jackson, while Mr Hayes won the consolation. After a musical programme supper was served. The Church of Englaud's usual monthly concert . took place in St. John's schoolroom last evening, and the committee deserve great credit for the excellent programme arranged. The North Canterbury Gun Club held a club sweepstake at Rangiora yesterday afternoon . (six sparrows). Th&re were 17 eutries. G. Hamilton retired in the fifth round, leaving 16 for the final round. Messrs H. Truscott, E. J. Beker, H. Ensor, finished up with five birds each, and agreed to divide the stakes. A six bird clay pigeon match was afterwards held, there being 10 entries. A. Prestney and H. Ensor retired in the third round, aud H. Truscott, J. Skelley in tlie fourth, leaving six competitors for the last round. A. Baines and J. M'Cracken secured five birds each, and agreed to divide the stake.

The committee of the North Canterbury Guii Club met last evening in their rooms at L'ieches Buildings, Rangiora, Mr B. Edwards presiding.' It was decided to shoot for the trophy given by Dr Will on Thursday, July 30, and" for the trophy donated by Mr J. G. M 'Donald on Saturday, July 18. The £SO match decided on at the last meeting was fixed for Monday, August 17, at 10.30 a.m., subject to the consent of the association. It will be a 15 bird match. The prize money was allotted as follows:—lst £3O, 2nd £l2 10/-, 3rd £5, 4th £2 10/-. It was decided to approach Mr J. W. Cassin to act as handicapper and referee. Thirteen new members were elected, bringing the total membership up to 76. The secretary was instructed to- write to Dr Will and Mr J. Gr. M'Donald expressing their thanks for donating trophies.
